General Swimming Pool Etiquette

To ensure a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for all swimmers, please follow the guidelines below:

Hygiene & Health

  • Shower before entering the pool to help maintain water quality.
  • Use the toilet before swimming and encourage children to do the same.
  • Do not swim if you have had diarrhoea in the last 48 hours.
  • If you have been diagnosed with cryptosporidiosis, you must not swim for 14 days after diarrhoea has stopped.
  • Babies and anyone unable to control their bowels must wear a properly fitted swim nappy.
  • Swim nappies are not leak‑proof, so they must be checked and changed if contaminated.
  • Anyone currently experiencing diarrhoea - regardless of wearing a swim nappy - must not use the pool until 48 hours afterwards.
  • If you have been diagnosed with cryptosporidiosis, you must not swim for 14 days after diarrhoea has stopped.
  • Do not swim if you are feeling unwell, have an infectious illness, open sores, or are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Reduce the use of aerosol deodorants to protect those with breathing difficulties. 

 

Safety

  • Inform lifeguards of any medical conditions that could affect your safety.
  • Swim within your ability and use buoyancy aids if needed.
  • Familiarize yourself with pool depth zones, hazards, and signage before entering.
  • Listen to lifeguard instructions and follow all posted notices - they are there for your safety.
  • Avoid holding your breath underwater for long periods.
  • Walk carefully on poolside; surfaces may be slippery.
  • Use the lockers provided for the security of your belongings; unattended items are left at the owner's risk.

  • No photography or videoing without prior consent from management.

 

Swimwear & Equipment

  • Wear appropriate swimwear identified on this page Pool Swimwear
  • Swimwear should not become excessively heavy or transparent when wet.
  • Outdoor footwear should not be worn on the poolside without shoe covers.
  • The use of fins, snorkels, masks, or other equipment may be restricted during public sessions - please check with reception.
  • Glass goggles or face masks should never be used in the pool. 

 

General Conduct

  • Be mindful of others: share lanes based on speed and avoid obstructing swimmers.
  • Keep noise to reasonable levels and avoid disruptive behaviour.
  • Dispose of litter responsibly and keep changing areas tidy.
  • Always supervise children closely and remain within arm’s reach of non‑swimmers.
