Mixed Ability Swim Sessions
Our Mixed Ability Sessions are to allow able and disabled families/friends to swim/play together in a leisure pool. This allows disabled and non-disabled people access to the facilities in a more inclusive environment.
- What are they?
These are special swimming times where everyone, including people with disabilities, can enjoy the water in a friendly and relaxed way. It's perfect for families with disabled children or anyone who doesn't feel comfortable in regular swimming sessions.
- Do you need to bring someone with you?
You don't need to bring anyone unless you need extra help in the pool or when changing. The staff can't give personal care, so if you need help, you should bring a carer. There is a special changing room with a hoist, but you need to bring your own sling and ask for the hoist battery at the front desk. You also need to know how to use the hoist.
- How is it different from regular swimming sessions?
These sessions are made to be welcoming for disabled people who might find regular gym or pool sessions difficult. It's like the 'autism friendly hour' at supermarkets, where changes are made to help more people join in and have fun.
