Why can't I use Fins, Masks or Snorkels?
- Masks with glass face panels may cause eye and facial injuries in impact with pool surfaces or other bathers, and may pose a further hazard with broken glass remaining on the pool bottom.
- All sub aqua masks obscure the nose, which may cause panic amongst untrained users if they suddenly swallow water and find they cannot breathe through their nose, this has resulted in accidents on a number of occasions with inexperienced and untrained users.
- Masks that fit over the face invariably restrict the vision of the wearer, often to a narrow channel immediately in front of them. This restriction in vision can cause accidents and injuries to other users in the pool when the wearer inadvertently collides with them or causes them to take evasive action.
- Certain types of snorkels can lead to breathing difficulties if not used correctly.
- The use of fins poses a hazard to other users through the possibility of accidental injury caused by impact with other users.
- This type of equipment is considered specialist equipment and requires training in its correct use.
- It can be difficult for pool lifeguards to communicate with users of this type of equipment.
- The use of hand paddles is strictly prohibited at Conwy Swimming Pools
