Volunteers
The Play Development Team offer support and mentoring to anyone interested in volunteering in play settings. Volunteers are given the opportunity to access free training and qualifications.
Training Plan
We want to give the play sector and everyone working with children and young people what they want, so if you have a training need in play or playwork that we don’t cover here let us know and we will do our best to cater for you.
If you have a group of 6 or more we can run most courses especially for you on a date and venue of your choosing, just get in touch to arrange.
Please note: As we are the CONWY Play Development Team we always give first refusal on training spaces to those working or living in Conwy. If there are spaces left on courses we may consider organisations based outside of the county.
Play Sufficiency
Under section 11 (1) of the Children and Families (Wales) Measure, each Local Authority is required to undertake a play sufficiency assessment every 3 years to assess opportunities for playing within its area. In addition we are required to develop an action plan that secures opportunities for children to play. Stakeholders and partners are committed to working together to achieve the aims set out in our play sufficiency action plan so that children in Conwy have access to staffed and unstaffed play provision but also have the best possible opportunities for playing in school, in their communities and beyond.
Removal of No Ball Games Signs
Conwy County Borough Council believe play is important and as many of our open spaces as possible should allow children to play freely. Because of this we believe some No Ball Games Signs could be taken down.

Conwy County Borough Council supports children’s right to play as enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. However, when children and young people are playing out we must ask that consideration is shown for other residents in the area.
When a request to remove a No Ball Games Sign is made an audit of the area is completed and local residents, the local councillor and local PCSO is consulted before a judgement is made about the removal.
Rich Play Award
The Rich Play Award, which has been achieved by numerous schools and childcare settings in Conwy, offers your setting or school the chance to improve the play experiences of your children. Settings signing up to the award will receive training for teachers, lunchtime supervisors, after school club workers, nursery practitioners and parents as well as workshops for pupils, play sessions and a tailor made play policy.
